What is RC car bashing?

In RC car bashing, there are no rules or regulations to follow. That means you have almost absolute freedom to do whatever you want to do with your car.  You are just testing the limits of your RC car.  You can have the highest jumps or screaming speed of your RC car.  A car crash is not something that you need to avoid.  Just enjoy the fun of it.  If you have just got into RC car driving, you might have heard the terms, bashing, and racing. This post helps you dig into the differences between these 2 fun and exciting activities.

Things to bring for RC car basing or racing

You need to bring several items when you go for RC car bashing/racing.  Here are the items.

  1. Bottles of water
  2. A bag to carry your car and tools
  3. Extra batteries for your RC car/transmitter
  4. Some extra screws and tool (wrench and screwdrivers) to give your RC car a quick fix
  5. Extra pinion gear so that you can adjust your RC car according to the different road conditions
  6. Extra body clips
  7. Your phone with the ability to take videos, and the phone stabilizer that I will mention later (bashing)
  8. A large plastic bag so you can put your dirty RC car in after the activity
  9. A GPS speed meter (bashing)

What types of RC cars are good for bashing?

ARRMA Talion – the best basher

I will bash only with shaft driven RC car.  As for belt-driven, most of them, their gearboxes are open, so I will use them on a clean race track without any dust or small stones.  In the dirt roads, there is no protection for each of those gearboxes.

I see that a basher must be durable, and run steadily.  These RC cars include trucks, buggies, rock crawlers/racer, stadium trucks, monster trucks, short course trucks, monster trucks.  As long as they are strong, they can be a good basher.  Here is a great basher made by Huanqi.

Make sure that the RC cars have the right tires for the terrain that you are considering running your RC car on.

Besides a durable RC car, a brushless of at least 3800KV, an ESC of 120A and a 3S LIPO are necessary to make your RC car a superb running beast in the wild.  These numbers can change according to the different sizes of your RC cars, and your preference.  For example, if you are driving a bigger car, you will need a motor with 2000KV to 3300KV and an ESC that can handle it.  As the KV goes down, the torque goes up.  Then, these motors are powerful enough to move the bigger RC car.

For the rest of the components of the car, you do not really need to upgrade them first, You can just replace them as they break.  When you upgrade the broken parts, you can consider using aluminum replacement.   By this beak and replace approach, you save money.

Let’s see how we bash with our RC cars

Areas you can bash your RC cars

For bashing, you can go anywhere as long as there is a big enough open area for your RC cars.  You can bash your RC car on grasslands, parking lots, sports fields, BMX tracks, or even at beaches.  Sure you need to be watchful while playing/driving so that other people around you will not get hurt by your powerful beast. Remember, as your RC car running at a speed of over 50 KPH, it can be very dangerous if it can hit a pedestrian.

Things to do while RC car bashing

Some people run a speed test while bashing their RC cars, but that provides a minimal improvement in driving skills. Check here for a speed meter.  Building your RC car and make it run up to 100 KPH (YouTube) is a very popular activity nowadays.  One good thing about RC car bashing is that you Don’t really need to set up the car as precisely as you would set it up for a race for you can bash freely, usually with no competitor. Even your car is not running 100% straight, you can still control it for a certain degree. During RC car bashing, you can feel very relaxed as you can stop at once. You are not forced to complete the current round.

You might appreciate the beauty of your RC car, and want to film each of its actions.  In those cases, you might need a phone holder like the one below.  With this, you can easily take all the videos of your exciting moment of your RC car bashing around.  You can even upload them to your YouTube channel.

Here is a post about the different activities you can do with your RC car.

Unless you are in an extreme bashing, you will not put too much stress on your RC car. If you bash only, you will not want to spend the time and money to make it always perform at its peak as you are just looking for casual fun. This is the reason why a beginner buys an RTR instead of a kit. While bashing, your primary aim is not to be the first one to complete the race, you should feel less peer pressure for upgrading your RC car.  Most of the time, you will need to spend a fortune on a race.

What is RC car racing?

RC Car Racing

By joining a race,  you will need to follow certain rules and regulations while complete with other participants on a track.  You will need to keep your RC car always at peak performance as you want it to be competitive against others. In the race track, you can see how each of the newest RC cars/technologies perform. As you see these technologies in practice, you will try your best to upgrade your RC car to make it a beast.

Let’s see how we race on a track

For racing, you usually need to drive to a racing track that might be far away from your neighborhood.  For this reason, you need to have to bring all your essential tools with spare parts; otherwise, if your car for some reason breaks, your day will be ruined. A few months ago, I was in the same situation. I got a big crash with my RC car, and its servo’s gears broke. As a result, my day was ruined even after I spent almost 2 hours traveling to the race track. At this point, I could not do anything but went home.

Restriction on a track helps racers to improve their driving skills – learn how to control the speeds according to different road conditions. Also, each race has a time limit, you need to stand up for a certain amount of time.

You are required to set up your car properly; if your car cannot run straight, you might have a problem with completing even one round. Moreover, usually, your cars in racing can get seriously damaged due to its lightened chassis in a high-speed crash.

Here is a YouTube video showing how people race.

In my opinion, bashing and racing are equally fun and exciting. If it is possible for you, you should join both of them with your friends.

Bashing is good for testing your car’s limitation and performance so RC off-road cars are the one suitable for this type of activity

On the other hand, racing is good for practicing your driving skills and sharing your knowledge with your friends.
